Business casual work attire, what are you wearing?
What is it? And how does it impact me
The days of men needing to dress in a suit and tie for work are changing. Businesses know that comfort at work is a key to keeping their best people. That said, let’s back up a bit.
Why did we need to wear a suit and tie?
It is a show of formality. The working man has taken the time to be serious about his dress and looks. This in turn means he is serious about business. Our industry needs have changed. Face to face contact is quickly being replaced with email. The modern worker can perform exceedingly well from a coffee shop, or a home office. He needs to look great for the situation and that situation is very different than our father’s.
Men have become moving workforces. They can work from anywhere in the world. They have flexible schedules and act more like connectors or innovators than 9-5 button pushers.
The suit and tie is becoming a negative stigma.
The suit and tie is becoming a negative stigma. The heroes of our generation repeatedly dress down. Steve Jobs became legendary for wearing a black t-shirt and jeans everyday. Elon Musk in his recognized wearing a black blazer and white shirt without tie. And we all know these two men have changed the world for good.
